What is meant by the term carrier invoice management?
Answer
Generally speaking, invoice management involves the process of handling, approving, allocating, and paying invoices. But managing carrier invoices is no longer as simple as slitting open the envelope from the phone company and writing a check. Today, invoice management as it relates to enterprise communications, is as complex as the invoices being managed. Aberdeen reports that the average mid-market company receives more than 3,000 telecom invoices per year, with Fortune 500 companies receiving over 15,000 annually. Those same invoices often run over 100 pages in length. No wonder the manual processing of telecom invoices has become virtually impossible. As the market continues to grow and change, the invoices do the same, becoming more and more complex, reflecting the intricacies of ever-changing inventory, hundreds of thousands of rate plans, and complex terms and conditions. Many are “rubber stamped” for the sake of expediency and moved through the payment cycle without any auditing or attempt at gauging accuracy. That’s one of the reasons Aberdeen estimates that 7%-12% of all communications invoices are in error.
